What is Rib Dysfunction?
Rib dysfunction describes a problem at the joint between the rib head and the thoracic spine. Pain is experienced due to improper gliding of the rib head or jamming of the rib head at the joint. Rib dysfunction is most commonly caused by trunk rotation combined with heavy lifting, excessive coughing and trauma to the area.
What is Costochondritis?
Costochondritis is an inflammation of the costal cartilage which connects each rib to the sternum.
What are Common Symptoms?
Pain along the spine at the medial border of the shoulder blade.
Pain while breathing, especially deep breaths.
Pain radiating along the rib between the spine and sternum.
